Barnes & Noble Bookfair Kickoff at Asheville Mall

November 28, 2015 - 8:00 am at Asheville Mall
1 South Tunnel Road

Barnes & Noble has selected us as a recipient of a special week-long Bookfair. From November 28 (the Saturday after Thanksgiving) until December 4, a percentage of all sales at brick-and-mortar locations and on will be donated to United Way of Asheville and Buncombe County when you use voucher code 11657244.

To start the week on a strong note, we’re inviting you — and any friends and family members you’d like to bring — to join us for breakfast and an exclusive hour of shopping before the store is open to the public. A portion of all sales from the bookstore and cafe will benefit our annual gift drive for local middle school students. It’s the perfect chance to purchase holiday gifts such as DVDs, educational toys, games, CDs, books and more.

The code is also valid at all U.S. locations and online troughout the entire week, so please be sure to share with family and friends (even if they live out of the area). You can even print vouchers with the number on them by clicking here.

Talent Jam Asheville – Bridging the Talent Gap

November 30, 2015 - 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm at Highland Brewing Company
12 Old Charlotte HWY

The WNC region is known across the country as a home for innovative small businesses and startups. At the same time, our area is also known for having a community of deeply creative and highly skilled people. Why is it that so many local companies have such a hard time finding great local employees, contract workers and freelancers?

There’s even a term for this problem: The talent gap. Is there really a talent gap in the Asheville and WNC area? Or is the solution really just a matter of making better connections?

To find out, the Kauffman Foundation WNC Entrepreneur-in-Residence Program presents the Talent Jam Asheville, a business-focused mash-up of “speed dating, job fair and a networking event.” It’s a modern take on the classic job fair, where both companies and workers will present one-minute pitches of their needs or talents followed by casual networking, all while enjoying great local food and drink.

The Talent Jam Asheville will be held at Highland Brewing Company on Monday, November 30, from 6 to 9 p.m. This free event is open to any business looking for fresh talent, and any talented worker looking for the right company. A one-minute pitch to the audience costs $15, with proceeds benefitting three local charities – Food Connection, Our Voice and YMCA of WNC. Registration is required and pitch opportunities are limited.

Free to attend. $15 to present a one-minute pitch. Proceeds benefit local charities: Food Connection, Our Voice and YMCA of WNC. Register here
