The Appalachian Trail Conservancy invites experienced backpackers to apply for its Smokies Wilderness Elite Appalachian Trail Crew, known as SWEAT. Each six-day session gives volunteers the opportunity to work on different parts of the Appalachian Trail in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Hikers interested in volunteering between June and August on SWEAT Crew should apply at www.appalachiantrail.org/crews or call 828-357-6541.

This beloved story about Fern, Wilbur, Charlotte, and their chatty animal friends will feature live bluegrass inspired soundscape composed and performed by Jonesalee, plus elements of puppetry, and is meant for audiences of all ages. LEAF Schools & Streets and Asheville Parks & Recreation are thrilled to present the first ever LEAF Summer Camp! LEAF Camp welcomes all rising first through fifth graders for a week full of daytime adventures through creative and performing arts. LEAF Summer Camp will re-create the beloved festival experience for kids as they participate in dance workshops, healing arts, face painting, drumming workshops, hula hooping, costuming, performances and much, more! LEAF Camp is extremely affordable for all families, with price tiers designed to respect different families’ financial situations. The camp will run during the week of July 21 through 25, 8:30am-5:30pm at the Dr. Wesley Grant Sr., Southside Center, located at 285 Livingston Street, Asheville, NC, 28801. LEAF presents the 4th annual FUNdraising event, Benefit of Culture: A Pirate Party Hullabaloo on August 7th, at the Highland Brewing Tasting Room. This pirate themed evening of music, food, drinks, and fun will benefit six youth arts education programs locally and globally through LEAF Schools & Streets and LEAF International programs. Patrons are encouraged dress in their swashbuckling best for the pirate costume contest, live music by Sirius B and the “Swashbuckling Sea-Stars”, Easel Rider “Pirate Arts,” and opportunities to win fabulous booty in the silent auction. Local HomeGrown EATS and a Highland Brewing BEER are included with ticket. Doors open at 6p.m. with a special VIP reception at 5pm. Individual tickets are $35; family tickets are $60, which includes admission of two adult and their children; VIP tickets are $75 per person; children under 10 are FREE.
